"Surprise" at Affinity Reception

This year's Affinity Reception was a major success with over 38 company recruiters taking their time to stop by our table and interact with our members.  We were able to discuss possible collaborations with respected companies such as PPL Corporation, Minitab, Toyota, Northrop Grumman, L'Oreal, Texas Instruments, Blackbaud and more.  Not only were we able to publicize all of the work and event programming SHPE is doing, but several members were able to successfully market themselves in hopes for a possible internship this year.  The reception itself was a very comforting environment with the recruiters being charismatic, approachable, and funny-- one recruiter even brought us a special surprise.   In the form of a very gracious donation, our sponsors at Northrop Grumman personally provided us with a check for $1000 to be used for our club's affairs.  We plan to distribute this donation in the form of a book fund available only to our paid members in the Winter quarter.  It is through wonderful grants and donations from sponsors such as Northrop Grumman that SHPE here at RIT is able to continue to grow and provide free services such as trips to National Conferences, social nights, food and drinks at meetings, scholarships and more.  Thank you!

Thank You!

I want to thank everyone that came out to our first general meeting last Friday.  For those unable to attend,  here's a quick recap. We started the meeting out with a fun little ice breaker where everyone thought up a random item that we later told them they needed to use to escape or survive a deserted island.  After the ice breaker, members of the executive board took turns describing to the membership what SHPE really means and had to offer them.  Dennis's testimonial was pretty heart-warming.  We finished the meeting off with a brief presentation describing benefits such as scholarships offered, workshops, chances to attend conferences, opportunities to lead in community service, and a chance to get you hands dirty in an engineering project.  The pizza served at the end of the meeting was the icing on the cake :)

For our next general meeting on October 2nd, we hope to have a professional from the Career Fair come in to present a brief informational about their company and possible opportunities.  Thanks again!
